Abstract

Verbena officinalis is a traditional Chinese medicine,which has the functions of promoting blood circulation,removing blood stasis,detoxicating,promoting diuresis,and relieving jaundice. It is often used in the treatment of edema,malaria,jaundice,hepatitis,cough,influenza,etc. Verbena officinalis contains many chemical components,among which flavonoids,iridoids,phenylethanoid glycosides,triterpenoids and volatile oils are the main active components. Modern pharmacological studies show that,Verbena officinalis has anti-inflammatory,anti-viral,anti-bacterial,antitussive,anti-tumor and immunity-regulating effects. This paper summarizes the related literatures about chemical constituents,pharmacology and toxicity of Verbena officinalis at home and abroad in recent 20 years,and summarizes its research progress,providing basis for drug development and clinical application of Verbena officinalis. |
