Abstract
|
Gut microbiota is involved in regulation on energy metabolism and immune regulation. Compositional changes in gut microbiota and its dysfunction is related to the occurrence and development of metabolic diseases, cardiovascular diseases, intestinal diseases, etc. Gut microbiota-dependent metabolites, including short-chain fatty acid,trimethylamine-N-oxide,and indole and its derivatives, are critical regulators entangled in treatment and prevention of cardiovascular and metabolic diseases considering their constitutive ability to modulate pathophysiological processes. Maintaining gut microbiota composition and regulating its dependent metabolites has been the novel mechanism of traditional Chinese medicine. In this paper, the participation of gut microbial metabolites in physiological and pathological processes was systematically expounded, and the treatment of gut microbiota dysfunction and metabolites associated disorders by traditional Chinese medicine was proposed. In all,the regulation of gut microbiota and metabolites by traditional Chinese medicine may be an essential target for the prevention and treatment of metabolic diseases and cardiovascular diseases. |
