Abstract
Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) has its unique advantages in treatment and prevention of ischemic brain disease. TCM holds that phlegm and blood stasis are the pathological products and pathogenic factors in the occurrence and development of ischemic stroke, which play an important role in the pathogenetic process. Phlegm-blood stasis is the key of pathogenesis of ischemic stroke. Meanwhile, from the view of modern researches, disorder in lipid metabolism, hemorheology and inflammation are the significant physiopathologic mechanism of ischemic stroke which are closely related to phlegm-blood stasis. So removing both phlegm and blood stasis plays a crucial part in ischemic stroke's treatment and prevention with its unique advantage. Combined with the ancient and modern literatures, this article will discuss and think about the mechanism theory and research progress of removing both phlegm and blood stasis applied in treatment and prevention of ischemic stroke.
