Fu Zai Wan An Fang is a masterpiece of traditional Chinese medicine in the Kamakura period of Japan. The author WEIYUAN Xingquan included a large number of Chinese Tang and Song medical books according to his own experience and perception, and became a representative medicine encyclopedia after Yi Xin Fang in Japan. Through text retrieval,it was found that there were 96 prescriptions containing bupleurum in Fu Zai Wan An Fang, including 4 bupleurum preparations of Shanghan Lun,which are Xiaochaihu Decoction,Dachaihu Decoction,Chaihu Guizhi Decoction and Chaihu plus Mangxiao Decoction. To sort out the literatures related to bupleurum in Fu Zai Wan An Fang, combined with the spread and development of Shanghan Lun in Japan,it was found that WEIYUAN Xingquan’s use of bupleurum attaches importance to the relativity of prescription and syndrome, flexibly adds or subtracts the modification, attaches importance to the decoction method and pays attention to the dosage. Through literature research,it was found that Shanghan Lun was not widely circulated in the Kamakura period of Japan, and WEIYUAN Xingquan did not read Shanghan Lun personally. Finally,by analyzing the content of bupleurum in Shanghan Lun cited from various medical books in Fu Zai Wan An Fang, the philological significance and clinical value of Fu Zai Wan An Fang for the study of Radix Bupleuri and Shanghan Lun were discussed.
