Abstract
At the age of “seven sevens”,the Chong and Ren meridians become deficient and weakened, the vital essence is about to be exhausted, and the kidney essence and kidney yin are insufficient. This may lead to the failure of true yin to ascend, the inability of yin to restrain yang, and the isolated hyperactivity of heart fire. The communication between the upper and lower parts of the body is disrupted, resulting in restless heart qi,an unstable spirit, and sleeplessness at night. Alternatively, the yin essence may fail to nourish the heart, leading to insufficient heart qi,disconnection between the heart and kidney, and malnourishment of the spirit, causing restlessness. In some cases, both the sovereign and ministerial fires are weakened, preventing the sovereign fire from descending and the ministerial fire from facilitating the connection between the heart and kidney, leading to insomnia. This article will explore the etiology and pathogenesis of perimenopausal insomnia from the perspective of “harmonizing the heart and kidney” and further discuss the academic ideas of Master of Chinese medical master,Professor XIAO Chengcong,in treating this condition. It is hoped that more attention will be paid to the health of women in the perimenopausal period.
