Abstract
The Wumei Pill, derived from ZHANG Zhongjing’s Treatise on Cold Damage Diseases within the Jueyin chapter,is a traditional Chinese medicine formula that integrates sour, bitter, sweet, and pungent tastes. It adheres to the therapeutic principles of using pungency to disperse and bitterness to drain, along with a balance of rigidity and softness, reflecting the strategy of “employing both cold and heat, and combining attack with supplementation”. This formula is renowned for its ability to harmonize the liver and spleen, tonify deficiencies, and purge excesses, making it a primary treatment for Jueyin diseases characterized by upper heat and lower cold. As clinical applications of the Wumei Pill have evolved, its therapeutic indications have broadened to encompass diabetes and its complications, demonstrating notable clinical benefits. This paper reviews the clinical and foundational research advancements of the Wumei Pill over the past decade, with the goal of offering innovative approaches for the effective management of diabetes and its complications, and advocating for a more comprehensive and extensive use of the Wumei Pill in clinical settings.
