Abstract
Low anterior resection syndrome is a common postoperative complication following rectal cancer surgery. It is characterized by bowel dysfunction, including altered stool frequency and consistency, discomfort during defecation, urgency and faecal incontinence. This severely impacts patients’quality of life. Although domestic consensus guidelines have been published, there are still no reliable and specific recommendations regarding acupuncture treatment modalities, therapeutic advantages, and distinctive features for different clinical outcomes of low anterior resection syndrome. Thirty-three experts from north, central, east, south and southwest China collaborated using the Delphi method, based on the latest evidence-based medicine and clinical experience,to develop the Expert Consensus on Acupuncture Treatment for Low Anterior Resection Syndrome after Rectal Cancer Surgery2025 Edition). The consensus finally reached 10 consensus recommendations around the applicable population and stage of acupuncture and moxibustion for low anterior resection syndrome and acupuncture and moxibustion treatment scheme, providing standardized guidance for acupuncture and moxibustion clinical practice of low anterior resection syndrome after rectal cancer surgery.
